This experience is designed for homeschool students in 6th grade and above. To keep the field trip focused and ensure adequate space and equipment for participants, attendance is limited to registered students only.

Homeschool students are invited to experience the same VR Explorers field trip offered to local 6th graders at Gillette College!

During this two-hour experience, students will rotate through two hands-on technology activities at the Technical Education Center.

In the Virtual Reality Lab, students will step into immersive, real-world simulations designed to show how VR is being used in education and workforce training. They’ll experience a mining safety simulation focused on blind spots around heavy equipment, giving them a first-person look at how virtual reality can help workers recognize hazards and practice safer decision-making.

They’ll also take a virtual tour of Gillette College, exploring campus spaces through an immersive experience rather than a traditional walk-through.

Then students will shift from experiencing immersive technology to creating with it. Working in small teams, they’ll use 360° cameras to capture immersive photos inside the Technical Education Center. They’ll learn how a 360 camera is different from a traditional camera, experiment with camera placement and perspective, and see how one image can capture everything happening around the camera at once.

This is a hands-on field trip experience—not a sit-and-listen class. Students will be exploring, experimenting, taking 360° photos, and learning by doing.
