Create a custom steel address sign in this hands-on metalworking MakerClass at Area 59. In this class, you will take a personalized house number design from the computer to finished metal while learning the basic process behind plasma cutting and metal fabrication.

We will begin in Adobe Illustrator, where you will learn how to prepare vector artwork for plasma cutting. You’ll customize your address numbers and select design elements that can be incorporated into your sign, while learning how cut paths, spacing, and structural connections affect the finished piece. No prior Illustrator experience is required. We guide you step by step.

Once your design is ready, we move to the plasma table to cut your sign from steel. You will see how your digital design is translated into toolpaths and then cut into a durable, custom metal sign.

After cutting, participants will:

• Remove slag and clean cut edges

• Grind and smooth the steel

• Prepare the surface for finishing

• Apply a painted, sealed, or natural metal finish

By the end of class, you will leave with a finished plasma-cut steel address sign ready to display at your home, shop, cabin, or property.
