Discover a different kind of laser engraving in this hands-on MakerClass at Area 59! In Laser-Etched Crystal Keychain MakerClass, you’ll learn how the xTool F2 Ultra UV can create detailed designs inside crystal, producing an image that appears to glow when the keychain’s lighted top is turned on.

You’ll begin by choosing an image for your keychain and learning how to prepare it for crystal engraving. We’ll walk through selecting an image that will reproduce well, removing unnecessary background details, adjusting contrast and clarity, sizing and positioning your artwork, and preparing the finished file for the F2 Ultra UV. You’ll also see how the crystal is positioned and how the laser creates the design within the glass rather than simply marking the outside surface.

Each participant will create a personalized 2 × 3 cm crystal keychain with a lighted top. When illuminated, the engraved design catches the light and gives your image a colorful glowing appearance.

No previous laser or design experience is required. All materials are provided.

Because engraving crystal can take longer than a typical surface-engraving project, your finished keychain may not be ready to take home at the end of class. If necessary, we’ll complete the engraving after class and contact you when it is ready to pick up later in the week.
