From Screen to Shop: Laser-Cut Piggy Bank

$35.00

April 10 | Grades 6+ | 9:00 - 12:00

In this hands-on design and fabrication class, students will learn how to turn a digital design into a real object using Adobe Illustrator and laser cutting technology.

Students will begin by learning the basics of vector design in Adobe Illustrator, where they will create a custom piggy bank shaped around their own initial. Along the way they will explore how digital shapes, outlines, and measurements translate into real-world fabrication.

Once their designs are complete, students will prepare their files for the laser cutter, which will precisely cut the parts needed to build their project. Each student will assemble a personalized wooden piggy bank featuring a clear acrylic front panel so they can watch their savings grow.

Throughout the class students will learn:

• Basic vector design in Adobe Illustrator
• How digital designs are prepared for laser cutting
• How a laser cutter translates vector lines into physical cuts
• Assembly techniques for laser-cut projects
• How digital design connects to real-world manufacturing

Students will leave with a custom laser-cut piggy bank built from their own design and a strong introduction to the digital design tools used in modern fabrication, engineering, and manufacturing.

No prior design experience is required. All materials are provided.
