BridgeLab: Engineering

Grades 4–6 | 6-Week Homeschool Series

Thursdays | March 26 – April 30
10:30 AM – 12:30 PM

What makes a bridge strong? Why do some designs hold incredible weight while others collapse?

In BridgeLab: Engineering, students in grades 4–6 will explore real engineering principles through hands-on design, building, testing, and redesign. Using craft sticks, hand tools, and structured building challenges, students will investigate compression, tension, load distribution, and structural efficiency while constructing their own model bridges.

Each week builds on the last as students:

  • Explore beam and truss designs

  • Make predictions using engineering reasoning

  • Build with precision and intentional design

  • Conduct controlled load testing

  • Analyze failures and improve their structures

This class emphasizes critical thinking, data collection, collaboration, and iterative design — the same mindset engineers use in the real world.

The series culminates in a final load test challenge where students showcase their strongest and most efficient bridge designs.
