Expectations

Design Center

  • Clean Up Your Workspace
Return materials, tools, and devices to their proper places. Wipe down tables and leave the space ready for the next user.

  • Save Your Work
Be sure to back up all digital files to your own device or cloud storage. We cannot guarantee long-term access to files left on shared computers.

  • Respect Shared Equipment
Treat all tools and devices with care. If something isn’t working properly, notify staff rather than attempting to fix it yourself.

  • Be Mindful of Noise
Keep conversations at a reasonable volume and use headphones when listening to music or audio.

  • No Food or Drinks Near Electronics
To prevent damage, please keep all food and beverages away from computers, printers, and other sensitive equipment.

  • Ask for Help When Needed
Staff are here to assist with software questions and equipment use. If you're unsure about something, please ask before proceeding.

  • Follow Software Licensing Rules
Do not install unauthorized programs or download restricted content on Design Center computers.

  • Shop Space

Due to limited space at Area 59, we are unable to store personal projects on-site. Please plan to take your project home with you at the end of each work session.

  • Clean Up Your Workspace

To keep Area 59 safe and ready for the next maker, all users are expected to clean up their work areas, return tools to their proper place, and dispose of waste materials appropriately at the end of each session.

  • Respect Staff Time

We ask that project work wraps up at least 30 minutes before closing time to allow enough time for clean-up and reset. Thank you for helping us maintain a welcoming and functional space for everyone.

  • Safety

Most equipment at Area 59 requires safety training or certification before use. This ensures all makers can operate tools safely and confidently. Please check with staff about training opportunities or prerequisites before planning your project.

  • Appointments

While some tools are available on a first-come, first-served basis, the best way to ensure access when you need it is to call ahead and make an appointment. Reservations help us prepare the space and support you more effectively during your visit.
