Christmas in July at Area 59

Get a head start on the holidays with Area 59's Christmas in July! Spend the day creating unique, handcrafted decorations and gifts using the tools and technology in our makerspace.

The event begins at 9:00 AM and will wrap up around 4:00 PM.

Participants registering for the full-day experience will rotate through all three projects in the following order:

• Metal Lanterns

• Barn Quilt Ornaments

• Wooden Nativity Scene

Prefer to make just one or two projects? No problem! Each project is also available à la carte. Simply register for the specific project(s) you'd like to attend and select the corresponding class time during registration.

Whether you join us for the entire day or just one project, you'll leave with beautiful handmade creations and new maker skills to enjoy long after Christmas in July is over.Participants will rotate through three festive projects:

• 🕯️ Metal Lantern – Fabricate a matched pair of decorative steel lanterns featuring a Christmas tree design using our xTool MetalFab system. Add an LED candle at home for a warm holiday glow.

• 🎄 Christmas Barn Quilt Ornaments – Paint and assemble beautiful laser-cut wooden ornaments inspired by traditional barn quilt patterns.

• ⭐ Wooden Nativity Scene – Use a scroll saw to create a layered wooden nativity display that's perfect for your home or as a heartfelt handmade gift.

No prior experience is necessary. Area 59 staff will provide instruction and assistance throughout the event, making it a fun experience for beginners and experienced makers alike.

• Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Minor Policy

Due to the nature of the shop projects, children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the event. Participants operating a scroll saw must be at least 18 years of age if a parent or guardian is not present on site.
